Forgive me, good chatters, it’s been six or seven weeks since the last edition. This time was taken up with post-lockdown/pre-Christmas get togethers and events and I’m not really sure what else.
Here are some things I’ve enjoyed:
French artist Stromae (kids who took French at school, iykyk) performing his new single on Jimmy Fallon:
Brandi Carlile and Miley Cyrus performing The Story and The Climb on Miley’s NYE special - they really are so good:
+ Brandi also sang Total eclipse of the heart
And some reads:
I feel like I’ve said many times that I’d read Jonathan Liew explaining the phone book - but here he writes about Arsenal, and it’s quite lovely.
Somehow in the bear pit of modern football, a place that feels angrier and more balkanised with every passing week, this 20-year-old man still manages to turn out every week and show us a little joy. And that, at least, is something worth holding on to.
A Gawker list of specific sounds/moments from songs - I have to give a +1 to the big transition in Billie Eilish’s Happier than ever.
A good rec from Kayla, about two 20-something students who decided to spend 2021 hiking across America. A really interesting read if you enjoyed the likes of Wild.
A New Yorker longread on the effect a 1971 murder has had on the friends and family members of the victim and the killers.
Good tweets:
That’s it! As always, @ me or email me with any thoughts, good links, etc!
